We invite the best patient visit redesigners to join our ranks. These folks have lived redesign and know the power of our methodology. They have been nurses, clinicians, administrators and support staff in safety-net healthcare organizations, so they understand your environment. They’re not just trainers—they are leaders.

Amanda Laramie, Trainer and Coach. Boulder, CO. Amanda has worked for Planned Parenthood in Providence, Rhode Island in the areas of Development and Fundraising followed by over two years as the Center Manager. She had a pivotal role in the merger between the Rhode Island Planned Parenthood clinic and the Connecticut affiliate in 2008 and led her team to dramatically improve teamwork, clinic efficiency and productivity. Amanda has experience leading work groups to cooperatively achieve their highest standards of success and has experience at the front desk in registration and billing, as a patient flow facilitator, counselor, and assistant to providers. Amanda especially focuses on change management and working one-on-one with staff through their individual process to adapt, and ultimately, adopt new systems and work cultures. Amanda loves hiking, eating, reading romance novels, and exploring out West!
Angel Avina, Trainer, Coach. Napa, California. Angel is the Medical Records and Front Office Manager at Community Health Clinic Ole in Napa, California. Angel has worked at Clinic Ole since the age of sixteen while still in high school. Throughout the past twelve years he has mastered all positions at this health center from file clerk, front desk, phone operator, and flow coordinator. He was a member of his clinic’s patient visit redesign team in 2004 and part of the Rapid DPI Management team in 2010. Angel has extensive expertise in the implementation of electronic medical records in a clinical setting and designing processes to fully exploit this technology. He is a valuable member of our Rapid DPI expert team. Angel speaks fluent Spanish. He and his wife Brenda make their home in Napa. Angel loves snowboarding, mountain biking, motorcycle racing and reading about current events in the world.
Barbara Hill, MPA, LCSW, Project Manager, Trainer, and Coach. Kingston, NY. Barbara has over 30 years of experience in health care management and consulting. Since 2006, Barbara has done redesign work in public hospitals, community health centers and HIV services. She has coached teams for a major NYC public hospital collaborative focused on Patient Centered Scheduling with Coleman Associates. She has taught leadership and supervisory skills workshops in several organizations. She was the Associate VP for HIV Services and Women’s Health at a large community health center network. Barbara has a Master’s in Public Administration focused on health care. She likes to hike and bike and loves going to the movies.
Carlos Avina, Dashboard CHAMP and Trainer, Napa, California. Carlos is the Quality Improvement Coordinator at Community Health Clinic Ole, a Non-Profit Federally Qualified Health Center in Napa, California. He has experience with Health Information Technology, data tracking, workflow design, as well as operational measures and performance dashboard development. He will be attending the University of San Francisco in the fall to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Minor in Business with a special interest in healthcare. Carlos is passionate about health and fitness, and loves to travel and snowboard.
Faz Bashi, MD. Deep Dive Trainer, Coach. San Mateo, California. Faz is a physician leader at San Mateo Medical Center working on innovative technologies that increase access, decrease costs, and enhance quality of care. Faz has experience creating enhancement of the referral system in his clinics EMR to integrate a clinical decision support tool, deployment of Telemedicine systems and various pilot projects where clinical and technological arenas overlap. Faz’s philosophy in life is to be a “possibletarian.” His previous experiences include basic science research on molecular messaging systems, corporate healthcare, and startup companies focused on novel data access tools and genomics. He is an active swimmer, runner, cyclist, ping pong player, and backgammonist. Faz and his wise four-legged sidekick, Omzi, love to go for walks on the beach to chase the waves.
Jeff Olivet, MA. Trainer and Coach. Cambridge, Massachusetts. Jeff currently serves as the CEO of the Center for Social Innovation (www.center4si.org). He was on the redesign team trained by Roger at the Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless. Since 2004 he has done redesign work in public hospitals, community health centers and HIV services. Jeff is also a national consultant and trainer on issues regarding homelessness, health care access, and HIV/AIDS. In addition to his work in the US, he has also worked internationally on health projects in South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria. Jeff has a bachelor’s in English and French, and a Master's in English Literature. Music and family are also passions.
Jonathan Silverman, Website Technical Guru, Bionic Squid. Boston, Massachusetts, www.bionicsquid.com. Jonathan’s background includes communications, technology, and online presence support for small business and mission-based organizations. An avid fan of WordPress and other open source platforms, Jonathan is tech-savvy but people-friendly. He has a keen sense for how best to communicate an organization’s living, breathing mission with bits, bytes, and pixels. When away from the computer, Jonathan enjoys biking and spending time with his Weimaraner, wife, and children.
Laura Traphagan, RN. Trainer and Coach. Lincoln, Nebraska. Laura is a clinic nurse (soon to be NP) from Lincoln, Nebraska. She has worked as a CNA, MA, LPN in long term care and rehabilitation, and then moved on to public health as an RN. She was chosen as an intern in the Coleman Highly Accelerated Mentoring Program (CHAMP) where she received intense, hands-on training from a team of seasoned Coleman Associates during a client health center’s Rapid DPI (Dramatic Performance Improvement) project. After this experience, Laura returned to her clinic invigorated and determined to make dramatic changes to her own health center (see her story: Outrageous Success on the Success Stories section of this website. Laura believes that redesigning the patient experience has a positive impact on the patient’s whole family and environment. Laura is from Venezuela and is married to a wonderful, multi-talented man named Eric. She loves being outside, camping, swimming, and walking. She loves a good adventure and plans to take up sky diving this summer.
Melissa Stratman, BA. General Manager/CEO. Boulder, Colorado. Melissa was the team leader of her health center’s redesign team in 1999. Since then she has managed the majority of our social services work (food stamps, Medicaid) PVR Collaboratives in both CHCs and for the New York City public hospital system, the largest in the country. Melissa developed our first Performance Dashboards and is one of our key Learning Session Presenters. Besides her clinical experience in the public health setting, Melissa also worked in the hospital setting developing Cultural Diversity and Interpretive Services. She speaks Spanish fluently. Melissa is an active runner, cyclist, and snowboarder. She’s got the cutest kid in the world.
Michelle O’Malley, Project Manager, Trainer and Coach. Phoenix, Arizona. Michelle was the Clinic Manager of a community health center that went through PVR in 2002 and also was a member of her organization’s management team training lead by Coleman Associates in 2005. She joined Coleman Associates in 2006. Since then she has managed several of our PCS Collaboratives, been a member of multiple PVR expert teams, RealTime Redesign teams, Social Service Project teams, High Impact Management teams (HIMT), and Rapid DPI expert teams. Michelle is a wildly mission-driven person, spending the past 20 years in the not-for-profit heath care system. She enjoys doing anything that will get her out and into the sun, is a huge sports fanatic, and loves hanging with her teenage son, Zach.
Norma Wright, BA, MBA. Coach. Bronx, New York. Norma was a Senior Associate Executive Director at a large HHC Brooklyn Hospital (with over 150,000 patient visits annually) for over 15 years. Since then Norma has served as temporary top management at Public Hospitals – specifically as they go through EMR selection and implementation. Norma is a superb redesign team coach and is savvy helping managers learn to manage through change. Norma also teaches Project Management, Finance and Leadership at the University of Phoenix. While she may be (semi) retired from Hospital work, she’s nowhere near retiring from change and fun.
Pamela Weisse. MSN, FNP. Technical Artist, Coach. Santa Fe, New Mexico. For 15 years, Pamela worked as a nurse in labor and delivery, infection control, and home health before becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner. In 2003, as a clinician, Pamela was the redesign team leader at Women’s Health Services in Santa Fe. Since then, she has been an extremely passionate and versatile team member serving on PVR, PCS, Rapid DPI, and Deep Dive Expert Teams. Pamela is an avid hiker and loves to travel. She totally adores her two daughters, who are both in their 20s.
Patty Perches Aguirre, BS, MPA. Project Manager, Website Administrator, Trainer, and Coach. Richmond, Texas. Patty was a redesign team member at a community health center and joined Coleman Associates in 1999. She has managed several PVR Collaboratives, a Revenue Maximization Collaborative (RevMax), and served on PCS and Rapid DPI expert teams. In 2007, she joined Texas Children’s Hospital as Director of Regional Operations for the pediatric practice division. While at Texas Children’s, she trained nurses, physicians, practice managers and leadership in redesign to improve patient care, efficiency, and patient satisfaction. Patty speaks Spanish fluently. She has been married to Oscar for 22 years and has two wonderful children, Micaela, 19, and Nicholas, 16. Patty loves to travel anywhere that has a beach, to garden for hours at a time, and to read good mysteries.
Roger Coleman, MBA. Founder, Creative Director. Santa Fe, New Mexico. Roger has thirty years of health care management and consulting experience. He taught Ambulatory Care Management at the Boston University Graduate School of Management and Strategic Marketing at the Harvard School of Public Health. Roger developed the first PVR training program in 1993 and the collaborative format in 1998. Roger also created our Deep Dive Work Sessions – which are a powerful force for creativity and exploring possibilities. Hiking, cooking, and astronomy are his key offline pursuits.
